Wombat Man: The Cereal Murders

Chrisi Talyn Saje the writer/director/producer of Wombat Man: The Cereal Murders, answered some quick questions for @SeeItOrSkipItLA!

1. In comparison to other Batman villains, just how evil is Trix the Rabbit? Does Wombat Man stand a chance?

A: Trix the Rabbit is up there with Cesar Romero’s Joker. Pushed over the edge, after years of torment by selfish children chiding him with, “Silly Rabbit, Trix are for Kids!” Trix is fully prepared to do whatever it takes to get that artificially flavored corn puff cereal, even if it means murder.

Does Wombat Man stand a chance? Absolutely. His pure devotion to his beloved Slothum City, his childish nature, and his determination to see justice done in this world is what drives him. Plus, he may just pick up a young ward to aide him in his crime fighting, if Wombat Man can convince the boy to join his cause.

2. Moment of truth. Who played your favorite Batman and why?

A: Favorite Batman? While all of the movies (and animated series) since the 80’s have been amazing at carrying on the Dark Knight’s lore, you just can’t beat Adam West. To play straight and serious in a campy colorful romp wearing a suit crafted from his own physique, you can’t help but have nostalgia for the 60’s series and Mr. West.

3. What about your show makes it perfect for the Fringe?

A: What makes Wombat Man great for Fringe is we are about celebrating the love of theater. The fourth wall is broken continuously as the show references itself to bring the audience into Wombat Man’s world. We’re about having fun, embracing childhood as adults, and seeing good triumph over evil.

What I would add is I am expanding Wombat Man with transmedia, where the story is told on multi-platforms. The social media pages, our website, and the ARG (alternate reality game) are meant to bring you into Wombat Man’s world. The website is his own personal superhero blog (hacked into by Trix the Rabbit). I enjoy expanding the narrative beyond the stage. So our outlets aren’t just there to inform people about the show, but to feel like Wombat Man and the fine citizens of Slothum City are real. Come play with us!

4. What do you hope the audience walks away with after your show?

A: I hope the audience leaves happy and giggling, craving cereal, and with the Wombat Man Theme Song forever stuck in their heads.

5. What show, other than yours, are you most excited to see at the Fringe?

A: There are a few shows on my list for Fringe so far: Stand-Upera, Spiderpocalypse, The Brazen Booties Present: The Booties’ Playhouse – I know there will be many more!
