Waiting Til We’re Old and Gray

Marching swiftly toward the end of time,
Day by day,
Night by night.
Waiting for the end of work,
The end of the task,
The end of a phase.
Biding our time til things get good,
Til the timing is right,
Til the planets align.
But what if they never do?

What if we spend our lives waiting?
Just one more hour,
One more day,
One more month.
Until finally we’re old and gray,
And have waited our whole lives.
For what?

There is no more time.
There is no perfect scenario.
No ideal situation.
So all was wasted.
While waiting,
Always waiting.
Afraid to act,
Afraid to live,
Live our lives.
But what if we had the chance to try again?

To live fully,
Throw caution to the wind and try,
Try for our goals,
Try for our dreams.
Work harder than we ever knew it possible to work,
And be happy along the way.
Embrace the journey,
Take the leap,
Have faith,
In ourselves.
Could we do it?

And if we did,
Would that instill meaning for the end of our days?

Top of the Mountain

You become so busy scaling the wall that you fail to see the ladder by your side,

The stairs that lead to the top of the heap, the top of the hill,

The top of the mountain that you have built

Stone by stone,

Handful of dirt, by handful of dirt.

So busy doing and preparing and striving for more, always more,

That you don’t realize that you are where you want to be.

You can stop running, stop searching, stop pushing to the breaking point,

And enjoy.

Actually revel in the fruits of your labor.

Let others come to you,

Welcome them in, ask them to stay

In the house that you built, the palace, the kingdom,

The realm that is you and your glorious work.

This is the place you call home.

Not Lonely

softly swaying in the light of the morn

a moan is ‘leased, brief and faint

floating like the whisper of a breeze

heads lean close, straining to hear

straining to catch the eerie wail

the breaking heart made audible

made real on the wind

carried away to soothe the soul

stripped of pain

left bare

clean

to start again

to grow strong

stronger than before

able to stand

resolute and unshakable

alone, but not lonely

Expand Faith

Symbols are an odd thing
When one believes
They can move mountains
Clear paths
Heal wounds
But when one disbelieves
A symbol is merely a statue
A pendant
A thing
I did not believe
I only have faith in those things that are tangible
That can be felt
Held
Loved
But now I believe
Mountains did not move
Paths did not clear
But my soul did heal
For that alone

Remember Me

Sailing smoothly through the night,

Troubled thoughts disrupt the calm.

A restless heart throbs its displeasure,

As the beats echo through the mind.

Remember me.

Remember me.

Remember you where? Help me to remember.

Remember me as the waves wash over your feet,

With the hot thrill of adrenaline at every tide that you meet.

Remember me.

Remember me.

Remember you when? Help me to remember.

Remember me in the laughter and the cheers during games,

In those moments of pleasure; we once had the same.

Remember me.

Remember me.

Remember what? Why can’t I remember?

Remember me in the strength of our last hug goodbye,

In the “I love yous” as we fought back the tears from our eyes.

Remember me.

Remember me.

I will remember you in all that I do,

Because I will always remember the love that I have for you.

Crashing Through

I refuse to live inside the box anymore
I refuse to stay within the lines
I refuse to conform
My passions draw me out
While standards pull me in
I will not live by standards anymore
Hollow, bland, unfeeling
I cannot live like that
I will not live like that
I’m tired of pretending to crash into the wall hoping to break through
This time I will
I will break through
Because I’m tired of pretendingbreaking through
I’m tired of stifling passion
She needs to get out
She needs to breath
She needs out so badly it hurts
And it will hurt more
Creation doesn’t come without pain
Expression doesn’t come without pain
Standing alone
doesn’t come
without
pain.

I Am

I am lost
I wonder where I’ll find myself
I hear comforting music
I see friends there for me
I want time
I am overwhelmed

I pretend that I’m fine
I feel fake
I touch no one
I worry they’ll see through me
I cry, but not enough
I am crumbling

I understand my limitations
I say I can do it
I dream of easier days
I try to live one day at a time
I hope for a break
I am trying to piece myself together

Force

Something wakes me

Some unseen force

I am meant to be somewhere

The warmth of a bed and the luxury of sleep are not for me

Not now

A light calls me

An eerie light I’ve never seen before

I must see beauty, but it’s not beautiful

It should be, it’s supposed to be, but it’s not

It’s plain

It’s the girl next door

It’s every day

But it’s meant for me and me alone

That’s enough to make it beautiful

Broken

Barely breathing beyond the bounds of basic necessity

Reaching, reacting, responding to rhetorical bombast

Ostentation is out of order, out of the obvious realm

Keening of the kind to keep the knell of kin out

Eradicating the emulous effigies that endure kings

Next to the nebulous niceties of the normal bustle

Near

You are the sun to my moon,
I can stand on my own,
Survive on my own,
But I am only bright when you are near.

You are the sun to my moon,
I revolve for you,
Transfer radiance for you,
But I am only light when you are near.

You are the sun to my moon,
I want to get closer.
Soak up all your rays,
But your heat overcomes me when I am near.

You are the sun to my moon,
Your flames tickle,
Fire engulfs me,
But I must feel what it is like for you to be near.

You are the sun to my moon,
You have destroyed me.
I will never be the same,
But I must stay in orbit, where you are near.
